About us –

Jacksons Nurseries (UK) Ltd, established over 60 years.  Family owned and run business, spanning 3 generations. Plant production nursery, garden centre, on line plant sales, tearoom and farm shop, employing over 50 members of staff. Looking to develop and nurture plant production for greater economies of scale, to sell within their retail & on line stores

Jacksons Nurseries is a family run, traditional nursery, based in Bagnall on the edge of the Staffordshire moorlands. We pride ourselves in high quality plant production and retail sales. We seek an enthusiastic individual with a keen enthusiasm in a horticulture environment, who is willing to learn from experience nursery staff.  Working within a horticulture environment is a rewarding career, providing opportunities to progress with a plant growing nursery environment, developing skills and learning all aspect of growing plants.

  • Principles of plant growth & development
  • Pest & Disease control
  • Plant Nutrition & feeding
  • Plant pruning techniques for optimum growth
  • Plant Propagation
  • Correct handling of equipment
  • Plant Identification
  • Plant growth phase
  • Selection of quality plants for retail sale

GCSES English and Maths or equivalent are desirable however not essential as Functional Skills are offered as part of the Apprenticeship Framework.

Training

  • Reaseheath Training will be the apprenticeship provider for this Level 2 apprenticeship.
  • The employer will give guidance and support throughout
  • Off-the-job training must make up at least 20% of the apprentice’s contracted hours, over the total duration of the apprentice’s planned training period
  • This Standard apprenticeship may include Functional Skills in maths, English & ICT

 

Upon completion of an apprenticeship, there is the opportunity for the successful candidate to secure a full time role, working in and around a plant production nursery. Enjoy being part of the whole horticulture environment, from Nursery production, to web sales and garden centre retail sales.
