Tell us about your role at HSS Hire
I’m currently a Fitter and, as well as completing Test and Run of the equipment, I’ve also been fixing equipment that comes back to site too. That’s part of the job I really enjoy. I’ve been working mainly on electrical equipment up to now, but I am hoping to start working on mechanical equipment soon.
What types of equipment have you been working to fix?
Anything and everything, such as drills, heaters, generators, lights and anything else electrical. Colin, my mentor, signs everything off to confirm I’ve done it right.
Do you receive much support from your colleagues?
Yes, Lots! Colin, my mentor, has been great. He won’t just tell me what to do, he’ll get me to work things out for myself through the process of elimination and question me as I am doing something. I also get lots of support from the other apprentices on site.
How are you hoping the apprenticeship will help you to develop your career?
I want to stay at HSS and achieve my qualification so I’m qualified in mechanical and electrical engineering. I’d also like to continue to progress and develop my engineering knowledge, which I will be hoping to do once completing my apprenticeship.
