Horticulture Apprentice

Closing Date for Applications: 28 February 2025
Standard / Level: Level 2
Location: Council Offices, Toft Road, Knutsford, WA16 6TA
Working for: Knutsford Town Council
Starting Salary: To be discussed at interview stage

Knutsford Town Council is the most local level of government for Knutsford. We are committed to making our town a better place for all and our staff are essential to this. We deliver a range of services from events, markets, the cemetery, adhoc projects and, of course, our Town Ranger!

Our Town Ranger, Bob, is one of our most vital members of staff and helps do all the jobs that “someone” should do making Knutsford a neater and tidier town for all. We are looking for an apprentice to work alongside him. If you are looking for a varied outdoors role where people hugely appreciate what you do, this is for you.

  • Hedge Cutting
  • Grass Cutting
  • Maintaining Flower Beds
  • General grounds maintenance
  • Street cleansing (graffiti removal, litter picking, weed spraying, flyposting removal)
  • Ad hoc repairs and cleaning of street furniture, signage, bus shelter and other public realm

This apprenticeship is part of us expanding the Town Ranger service and in the future we may be taking on additional grounds maintenance services. Subject to the right candidate, it is likely the role could lead to a permanent position.

We can provide transport within Knutsford itself (our Town Ranger can pick you up) or you can make your way to our depot to meet Bob each day.

We’re committed to getting the best from our team and will provide additional training outside the apprenticeship for example around safe use of tools and other skills as necessary.

You will be part of an operations team of five and a wider office team of nine. We’re a small team and all work cohesively together for the best of Knutsford.

We provide access to a Local Government Pension and have a generous leave allowance.
