About the Role: We are seeking motivated and passionate individuals to join our team as part of a Rail Engineering Technician Apprenticeship. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career in the rail industry, where you will receive hands-on training, learn key skills, and gain experience working on cutting-edge rail technology.
As an apprentice, you will rotate through various departments, gaining exposure to a range of engineering activities. This role is designed to build your competence and skills in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and general depot duties, ensuring you meet the required industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake daily safety inspections, routine exams, corrective maintenance, and reliability modifications.
- Provide technical support to depot teams, assist with primary fault finding and reporting.
- Manage and maintain 5S standards across the depot to ensure cleanliness and organisation.
- Perform both electrical and mechanical maintenance, including preventative and corrective tasks.
- Support secondary fault finding, gather and position fault data into the shared drive facility.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with Alstom’s quality, safety, and regulatory procedures.
- Adhere to Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), and Railway Group Standards.
Training & Development:
- Complete the Rail Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship, including both knowledge and competency qualifications.
- Participate in block release training at college.
- Receive on-the-job training and role-specific development at the depot.
- Gain hands-on experience across a variety of tasks and systems, providing a well-rounded foundation for your career in the rail industry.
Essential Requirements:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in 5 subjects, including Maths, English, and Science (grades 5-9).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Logical thinking, strong problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- A passion for learning and developing within the rail engineering field.
- Ability to work outside standard patterns as required (block release training, weekend shifts, etc.)
